Jesus - Holds it All Together

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.
Christ is also the head of the church,
which is his body.
He is the beginning,
supreme over all who rise from the dead.
So he is first in everything.
For God in all his fullness
was pleased to live in Christ,
and through him God reconciled
everything to himself.
He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.

Celtic Prayer

A Celtic Prayer (Traditional Celtic)

May the Christ who walks on wounded feet
walk with you on the road.
May the Christ who serves with wounded hands
stretch out your hands to serve.
May the Christ who loves with a wounded heart
open your hearts to love.
May you see the face of Christ in everyone you meet,
and may everyone you meet
see the face of Christ in you.

Great prayer!

Jesus Lover Of My Soul

Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to Thy bosom fly,
While the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high.
Hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm of life is past;
Safe into the haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none, hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, ah! leave me not alone, still support and comfort me.
All my trust on Thee is stayed, all my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head with the shadow of Thy wing.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found, grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life the fountain art, freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart; rise to all eternity.

Charles Wesley - 1740

Nancy and I have sung this as a duet for years now. I saw it in the margins of my NIV Worship Bible today and it stuck with me.

Beautiful and powerful stuff - don't you think?

Daily Bible Readings

Bible reading is a challenge. Especially if you do it in a disciplined orderly way. Currently I am working with Daily Readings from the American Bible Society. I like getting the suggested reading emailed to me. It keeps me on track.

I'm not a big fan of the Good News Translation - but at least it keeps me following consistently along a through the Bible plan and the brief reflections and comments are helpful. OF course the old school through the Bible Reading Chart is also a good tool.

Are you using some particular Bible Reading Plan?
